5 Best Flight Training News Sources

We are in an age of information overload, which at times can make staying current on the latest happenings in flight training news a bit of a challenge. With so many different mediums and outlets for collecting our news it can be overwhelming and down right challenging to find quality information on a daily basis.

For me, the first 30-45 minutes of my day are devoted to reading up on the latest flight training news.  To do this I have come up with five methods for gathering my news to ensure I stay on top of all the current events in the industry (listed in no specific order).

1. AOPA Website

I have just recently started visiting The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association website more frequently.  They do a good job of providing the latest information and trends on both the flight training and general aviation markets.  I particularly like their blog, which is full of good content and updated regularly.  The one downside to the AOPA website is that you may find yourself weeding through the articles from time to time to find specific flight training news.

2. Social Media

You may be surprised to find out that nearly 10% of the online population gets their news from social media.  Using tools like TweetDeck and HootSuite to monitor Facebook and Twitter is a very effective way to get news almost as soon as it is released.  15 minutes after President Obama announced that Osama Bin Laden had been killed (the announcement was made at 11:45pm EST), over half a million tweets went out. Clearly news spreads fast on social media platforms, therefore using a tool to monitor keywords like flight training, aviation, or pilot education is a very effective way to stay current on flight training news.

3. Google Alerts

This one is easy.  If you don’t use Google Alerts you should certainly set them up today. Similar to TweetDeck or HootSuite, you just tell Google what words you want it to search for and every day Google will send you an email with the newest articles and web pages containing your keywords. 4. Aero News Network (ANN)

ANN is an online resource that is solely dedicated to writing and reporting on news in aviation.  They aren't solely focused on flight training news but I would say a good portion of their content is related to flight training in some way.  To make your life a little easier, I
would recommend subscribing to their newsletter which comes out daily.  This way you will get their articles right to your inbox without having to mine through their somewhat archaic website for good content.

5. Blogs

Poking around on aviation blogs is a little more tedious but still an adequate tool for finding good flight training news. One that I check out every couple of weeks is the Flight Training Blog by Aviation Schools Online.  Once you start using Google Alerts you will definitely stumble across a few other good blogs too.
